Updated List of New Roller Coasters Opening in 2024

It’s never too early to start looking ahead at what the future will bring. Yes, most of the new for 2023 roller coasters haven’t even opened yet but we’re already anticipating several major new roller coasters for 2024. Like we did last year, this is a running list of the best roller coasters that are slated to open in 2024. Of course, these are subject to change due to delays and other unforeseen circumstances.

Note: this list is not exhaustive and does not include some smaller roller coasters nor all international new-for-2024 coasters.

2024 Roller Coasters That Have Been Officially Announced For the US

Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point

On September 6, 2022, Cedar Point announced Top Thrill Dragster, as we know it, would be retired, but they were hard at work on a new and reimagined ride experience. In January 2023, Cedar Point confirmed Top Thrill Dragster would not open for the 2023 because they are working on a “New Formula For Thrills. Coming in 2024.” Will it have a new theme? Extended track layout? What will the launch system be? We can’t wait to find out more information on 2024’s most anticipated roller coaster. Top Thrill 2 announced!

Iron Menace at Dorney Park

Dorney Park is opening Iron Menace, a Bolliger & Mabillard dive coaster, in 2024.

Fire in the Hole at Silver Dollar City

Silver Dollar City will introduced a brand new version of the park’s beloved Fire in the Hole indoor coaster in 2024. Don’t miss our Fire in the Hole construction tour.

Unnamed Surf Coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia

Six Flags Over Georgia will debut a yet-to-be-named Intamin Surf Rider coaster in 2024.

Bobcat at Six Flags Great Escape

Six Flags Great Escape will open Bobcat, a family-friendly Gravity Group wooden coaster, in 2024.

Good Gravy at Holiday World

A gravy-themed coaster? Sign us up — Holiday World will debut Good Gravy, a Vekoma family boomerang coaster, in 2024.

Snoopy’s Soap Box Racers at Kings Island

Kings Island will open Snoopy’s Soap Box Racers, a Vekoma family boomerang coaster in 2024.

Pair of Vekoma Coasters – Oasis at Lakeport

At the IAAPA conference in November 2022, Noble Rides was showing off the vehicle for a custom launch coaster coming to a new development in the Lake of the Ozarks called Oasis at Lakeport. Noble Rides is a subsidiary of Jinma Rides (formerly Golden Horse) located in Bern, Switzerland. However, one of the two coasters seen in the latest plans is clearly a Vekoma suspended family coaster (clone of Dragonflier at Dollywood), while the other appears to be a Vekoma family boomerang. Was the Noble Rides coaster cancelled? Construction is supposed to begin in June 2023 with an anticipated opening in August 2024.

Premier Rides Spinning Coaster – Steel Pier

Also at IAAPA 2022, Premier Rides announced they’d be brining two coasters to Steel Pier in Atlantic City. The first will be a spinning wild mouse coaster to debut in 2024. A sky rocket II model was also announced for Steel Pier and is now planned for a 2025 opening. Interestingly, these may actually not be brand new coasters, potentially both are actually coming from Bosque Magico in Mexico.

Bone Shaker and Hot Wheels – Mattel Adventure Park

Mattel Adventure Park will feature Hot Wheels, a Chance Rides Hyper GT-X coaster. Think Lightning Run at Kentucky Kingdom but with inversions and LSMs. There will also be Bone Shaker, a family-friendly Chance Rides coaster. Originally expected to open in 2023, is now slated for 2024.

Palindrome ad Circuit Breaker – COTAland

Austin, Texas’ Circuit of the Americas (COTA), known primarily for racing, is about to pop up on the radar of more roller coaster enthusiasts (or at least your crazy relatives who tag you in Facebook posts asking “Would you ride this?!?!” Announced in November 2021, Palindrome was supposed to have opened by late 2022 but recent pictures show the Gerstlauer Infinity shuttle coaster still sitting in a field in pieces.

Which doesn’t pose well for the park’s second major roller coaster. Announced in March 2022 and originally scheduled to open in 2023, North America’s first “Tilt” Coaster, Circuit Breaker, has probably been postponed to 2024 or beyond.

Midnight Flyer – Santa’s Village

Earlier this year, Santa’s Village, located in New Hampshire, announced the popular Rudy’s Rapid Transit Coaster will close during the 2023 fall season. However, a replacement is already in the works with the arrival of a brand new steel family roller coaster, the 𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐅𝐥𝐲𝐞𝐫, to take its place in 2024. The Midnight Flyer coasts a little faster, rises a little higher, and will glide through a variety of twists and turns before returning to the station. The Midnight Flyer is being built by Vekoma Rides Manufacturing B.V. We look forward to sharing more details soon!

2024 International Roller Coasters That Have Been Announced

Here’s a few of the new for 2024 roller coasters opening outside of the United States that we’ll be keeping our eyes on. It’s still early, but for now there are far more exciting international coaster projects than there are for the US.

Zamperla LSM Launch Coaster – PNE Playland

In November 2022, the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE), owners of Playland Amusement Park in Vancouver, announced the purchase of Canada’s fastest launch coaster, and the first LSM coaster from Zamperla. The coaster will open at Playland in 2024.

Nemesis Retrack – Alton Towers

OK, maybe not exactly a new roller coaster but the world renown Nemesis B&M inverted coaster at Alton Towers will be closed the entire 2023 season while most of the track is replaced.

Voltron – Europa Park

Coming in 2024 is Mack Rides first Stryker Coaster with a lot of crazy elements and powerful launches packed into 4,500 feet of track.

Project Exodus – Thorpe Park

This unique Mack Rides 236 foot tall hyper coaster will be the UK’s tallest and fastest roller coaster when it opens in 2024.

Flash: Speed Force – Warner Bros. Movie World

Warner Bros. Movie World in Australia announced “The Flash: Speed Force,” a multi-launch Intamin halfpipe shuttle coaster that will open in 2024.

Additional Attractions Opening in 2024

A list of smaller roller coasters and roller coaster like rides opening in 2024.

As of July, not much yet to report.

The Dolly Parton Experience: an interactive, newly reimagined approach to telling Dolly Parton’s story is planned for a 2024 opening at Dollywood in the area surrounding and including the former Chasing Rainbows museum.

2024 Coasters Teased But Not Announced

In 2021, the Nashville Zoo sent out a future attractions survey and one of the choices was a dueling Vekoma family boomerang coaster. Rumors say this attraction is becoming reality in 2024. Hopefully we’ll be able to add the Nashville Zoo to our list of places where you can get your animal and coaster fix.

The first “Boom” coaster by Universal should open at Universal Studios Japan and will be themed to Donkey Kong.

SeaWorld Orlando just recently opened Ice Breaker and will be opening Pipeline this year. But could they be opening another roller coaster as early as next year? Construction work appears to have already started and coaster enthusiasts are speculating on another attraction to truly cement the park as the “Roller Coaster Capital of Florida.”
