Despicable Me Review

This week, the new Despicable Me ride at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, soft opened. I was fortunate enough to be able to get to the park early and ride the ride.

The plot of the ride is that you are here to become one of Gru’s “minions,” and he has invented a device which will turn you into one. The que is themed as Gru’s house, and for the ride you are taken into his lair. The use of the 4-d effects begin at the second part of the  que, but I will not give away the surprise.

I was quite impressed with everything about the ride. The theming was stunning, as expected by Universal, but the humor was also excellent. It was also nice that you could enjoy the ride without having seen the movie. The ride itself also did not disappoint. I was half expecting another Terminator ride, but it is more like Shrek 4-D. You are placed in a car that sits 4 people across, 8 people total. The whole car moves  in place, with the 3-D movie in front of you.

Overall, I think that Universal has outdone itself again. This is a ride that will entertain guests for years, especially with the new movie coming out next year.
