First Intamin Launched Single Rail Coaster Coming in 2021

In a year in which there hasn’t been much good news in the amusement industry we had two exciting and surprising coaster news drop this week. First, the announcement of Indiana Beach adding a roller coaster. And now the news of Luna Park in Australia not only adding two brand new roller coasters, but one will be the first of its kind.

Earlier this year, Intamin unveiled four new coaster concepts, one of which was the Hot Racer, Intamin’s answer to Rocky Mountain Construction’s single rail “Raptor” coasters. The first Hot Raver is coming in 2021: Big Dipper will feature two launches and two inversions in a compact layout with multiple airtime moments.

I don’t think anyone expected Luna Park to be home to the world’s first single rail launch coaster. But this is exactly the type of park this coaster is designed for, one where space is at a premium. Take a virtual ride by watching the POV below.

At Sydney’s famous Luna Park, nine rides will be removed and will be replaced by nine new rides will be built at Sydney’s famous Luna Park next year under a $30 million overhaul. One of the other new rides is being described as a “family coaster” and by the concept art looks like a Vekoma family boomerang coaster.

“If you can’t operate at full speed, or at full capacity, take this opportunity to invest in your product so that when everything’s open again and visitors are coming back you’ve got a great experience you can provide,” NSW Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres said.

The new Big Dipper coaster is expected to be operating by November or December 2021.

Luna Park is open Friday to Sunday with COVID-19 restrictions and will close from January 27 to mid-June for construction on the new rides.
