Indiana Beach Planning Triple-Loop Coaster and Spinning Flat Ride for 2021

Indiana Beach is planning for an exciting 2021 season. Today, the park announced plans to build a triple-looping Schwarzkopf roller coaster and a “Polyp” spinning flat ride for the 2021 season.

Triple-Loop Roller Coaster

Originally built in 1984, the compact Schwarzkopf coaster stands 111 feet tall and reaches a top speed of 53 mph, pulling 4.7 g-forces as it maneuvers through three vertical loops. It was the world’s first coaster to feature three vertical loops.

The coaster’s track stretches roughly 3,444 feet in length. The ride is being relocated from the now-defunct La Feria Chapultepec Magico amusement park in Mexico City where it was known as Quimera.

“This Triple Loop, Steel, Sit Down Coaster is the perfect fit to accompany our existing lineup of amazing coasters,” said Indiana Beach owner Gene Staples.

“As we head into the off-season we are continuously looking for ways to improve our guest experiences, one important way is through the addition of new rides and attractions, and we feel both of these rides are a great fit and complement to our existing lineup.”

This will be the Schwarzkopf coaster’s fourth home at a permanent park. It spent 12 years in the German fair circuit operating as Dreier Looping before finding its first home at Sunway Lagoon in Malaysia, where it was known as Triple Loop Coaster from 1997-1999. It was then relocated to Flamingo Land in England where it operated as Magnum Force from 2000-2005. Unfortunately, its time at La Feria Chapultepec Magico as Quimera from 2007-2019 ended in September 2019 with a fatal accident which claimed the lives of two riders.

The coaster is being refurbished and is expected to welcome riders in time for the summer season of 2021.

Spinning Polyp Flat Ride

Indiana Beach also is planning a “nod to the park’s nostalgia” with the addition of a Zamperla “Polyp” ride, which features five spinning arms with four cars attached to each arm. The arms move up and down as the entire ride rotates.

The ride is already on-site and is undergoing a refurbishment, according to a statement released by the park.

This ride first opened at Kiddieland Park in Melrose Park, Illinois, and is believed to have moved to Lake Winnie in 2010 where it operated as Sea Warrior.

As of this posting, the park has not unveiled the names of the roller coaster or polyp ride nor where in the park they will be built.

Indiana Beach will open for its 95th season in May 2021. For more information, visit the Indiana Beach website.

This addition continues Indiana Beach’s comeback under new ownership. The park was shuttered in late 2019 by its previous owner but was later purchased and reopened in time for the delayed (thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic) 2020 season.
