Knott’s Taste of Calico Experience: New Dates Added

Theme parks in California remain closed — and are probably going to stay closed for awhile as COVID-19 cases in the state keep rising — so parks are finding new ways to entertain guests. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom opened just the animal attractions over fourth of July weekend, and now Knott’s Berry Farm is opening the Knott’s Taste of Calico experience.

Starting on July 17,  the park will open the gates to Ghost Town for the first time since it shuttered back in March. At the ticketed outdoor event, you’ll get to stroll through the streets of Calico once more, sampling unqiue boysenberry food and shopping at local crafters as you go. Think of it as a stand-alone Boysenberry festival.

Some of the treats at Taste of Calico: Samosas with boysenberry chutney, boysenberry elote, boysenberry stuffed churros, and boysenberry steak chilli with boysenberry cornbread.

The event requires a Taste of Calico tasting card bought in advance. Tasting cards both get you access to the park, and come with 5 samples for adults for $25. There’s also a $15 kids card with three tasting samples. There will be 23 specialty food and beverage selections to choose from. The full list is up now on the Taste of Calico Website here.

Lots of boysenberry drinks available too!

The park plans to run the festival on Friday July 17 through Sunday July 19, and then again on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the following week. Friday and Saturdays hours will be 4PM to 10PM, Sundays 12PM to 8PM. You MUST buy a ticket in advance for a specific date from the Knott’s website, kind of like making a park reservation. Additional tasting cards can be purchased once you’re in the park, and at least some items will be available a la carte if you want to experience more (say, all 23 items, for example).

UPDATE: Turns out the event is very popular, so Knott’s is extending it to two more weekends. Taste of Calico will now also run on July 31 – Aug 2 and Aug 7-9. They’re also extending the hours for the event to 12-9PM on Friday and Saturdays and 12-8PM on Sundays. Make your reservations quick!

The Ghost Town craft folks will be out making souvenirs for you, along with lots of local artisans.

As with all parks openings happening these days, a bunch of safety measures will be in place. Face coverings are required while doing anything but eating, tables will be outdoors and spaced apart, lots of hand sanitizer, and so on.
