Silver Dollar City Time Traveler Spinning Car Unveiled

Today at the International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions (IAAPA) Expo in Orlando, Mack Rides unveiled one of the cars of Silver Dollar City’s new-for-2018 Time Traveler launched, spinning coaster.

When it opens next year, Time Traveler will be the world’s fastest, steepest and tallest complete-circuit spinning coaster. Watch an animation of the coaster in action below:

Those three world records that the double-launch spinning coaster will break include:

  1. Fastest (50.3 mph)
  2. Steepest (10-story, 90-degree vertical drop)
  3. Tallest (100 feet)

The custom-built coaster will hug the mountainous terrain of Silver Dollar City and will feature three inversions: a dive loop, vertical loop and a zero-g roll.

Each of Time Traveler’s three trains will have four of these cars, each accommodating four riders seated back-to-back.

The attention-to-detail on this car is really incredible. Note the time-travel-appropriate date spinner above the park’s logo:

Each car features gears, cogs and other industrial components as part of its decor.

According to the park, “beyond its specialized look, the most cutting-edge feature of the vehicle is its 360-degree adjustable magnetic spin control.”

If you’re concerned about spinning (like I am), Christian von Elverfeldt, CEO of Mack Rides, says not to worry:

“For the utmost comfort, an on-board magnetic brake limits the rotation speed to allow the most enjoyable ride experience for all ages.”

Time will tell (see what I did there?).

Silver Dollar City is investing $26 million in Time Traveler — its biggest spend on a single attraction in the park’s history.

“The interest in Time Traveler has been monumental from the perspective of guests, coaster enthusiasts and the industry,” said Brad Thomas, President of Silver Dollar City Attractions. “Our goal is to make a global statement with a ride like no other.”
