Rookie Racer Construction Update

Earlier this year Six Flags St. Louis announced Rookie Racer, a new family roller coaster. During our visit to the park on Saturday, August 12 we took a moment to check in on the status of construction of the new roller coaster.

Rookie Racer is located in front of The Boss wooden roller coaster.

Rookie Racer’s train will feature eight cars and will hold up to 16 riders in each cycle.

The family coaster will hit a max speed of 27 mph and cover 843 feet of steel track. We don’t know what the tallest height of the ride is but it is a tire driven lift hill.

All the track and supports appear to be at the park, just sitting and waiting for installation.

The minimum height requirement is 36 inches and will fill the role of kiddie coaster quite nicely.

The first track pieces outside the station have been installed.

The train has been closed due to Rookie Racer construction.

All the cement footers appear to be in place.

Part of the ride will spiral above the train tracks. Interesting that the station is at the far end of the site and not closer to the railroad tracks and Boss entrance. Oh well, they really do like their long walks in St. Louis.

The go karts and swing have been removed. The Rookie Racer marker in Google maps is where the track and supports are stored but the actual ride location is on the other side of the railroad tracks, as shown in the red circle below:

As of today, the park’s website still says Rookie Racer is scheduled to open “later this summer.” Obviously that seems very unlikely.

We also posted a quick overview video on our YouTube channel.

UPDATE 8/19

Surprise! In the week since I took these photos, the entire track has been installed and an opening date will be announced soon. Great work by the Six Flags team!
