Disney Parks News and Updates from Destination D23 2021

As part of the annual Destination D23, Disney officials unveiled exciting news and updates for future Disney Parks attractions, expansions and much more. Below is a running list of some of the biggest announcements:

New Disney Parks Attractions and Lands

We received updates on several Disney Parks attractions and lands that are in the pipeline:

A Transformed Mickey’s Toontown Will Debut in 2023

As we learned earlier this week, Disneyland will transform the Toontown area with a refresh that adds new play experiences and open green spaces for guests to enjoy.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is also slated to open in Toontown in 2023.

Disneyland Resort’s Downtown Disney District Upgrades

Work will begin in January on “the next evolution of Downtown Disney District” at Disneyland Resort.

The multiyear project will reimagine Downtown Disney District with new shopping, dining and entertainment offerings. Disney officials expect to release additional information next year.

Dreamers Point and Connections Cafe at Epcot

As part of the ongoing Epcot transformation, Disney is reimagining the front of the theme park and entry experience with the addition of a new location near the front of the park named “Dreamers Point.”

The spot will offer a spectacular view of the park as well as a new Walt Disney statue.

Additionally, the World Celebration area of the park will soon be home to the “Connections Cafe” restaurant.

Attraction Opening Dates

The event included opening dates of several highly anticipated new attractions.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Epcot

We now have a slightly better idea of when we can finally ride the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind indoor coaster at Epcot: sometime next summer (2022).

We also learned that the legendary Glenn Close will reprise her role as Nova Prime:

Progress on Disney Parks Attractions and Lands

While we may have already known about these new attractions and experiences, Disney gave us insight into the status of some of these forthcoming experiences.

No Opening Date for Tron at Magic Kingdom

Sadly, we still don’t have a confirmed opening date for the Tron coaster coming to Magic Kingdom. But we were gifted with this beautiful piece of concept art:

Maybe 2023? 2024 doesn’t seem too far-fetched. Only time will tell.

Avengers Campus at Disneyland Paris

Avengers Campus at Disneyland Paris will also open summer 2022 as part of the resort’s 30th Anniversary Celebration.

This follows the opening of Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel earlier this year.

Disney Parks Hotels and Overnight Experiences

The event also gave us new details on some of the overnight accommodations and experiences coming to Disney Parks in the coming years:

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Lightsaber Training

Guests embarking on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser overnight experience will have the opportunity to train with lightsabers, as demonstrated in the video below by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro:

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will welcome its first guests on March 1, 2022.

Disneyland Hotel Upgrades

Imagineers are incorporating Disney storytelling into the resort upgrades, which include a redesigned pool and recreation area as well as room upgrades, all inspired by classic Disneyland characters.
