Toontown at Disneyland is Getting a Refresh

Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, announced at IAAPA that “an ambitious reimagining” of Toontown at Disneyland will debut in 2023. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway was already set to open in 2023 in Toontown. So, it makes sense that the park would take advantage of the construction already underway to do a bigger overhaul to the land.

According to the Disney Parks blog article, the park is working on all-new experiences for families and young children. New open grassy play areas will open along with the new “experiences,” and the land will “transform into a vibrant symphony of sights, sounds, and sensations.”

“We are so excited to leverage Disney’s powerful brand, develop new stories and share even more magical experiences with our guests,” said D’Amaro. “The newly reimagined Mickey’s Toontown will be a welcoming place where families and younger guests can connect and play together in fun new ways.”

The first new areas coming to Mickey’s Toontown is CenTOONial Park. It will be the first space you see when you enter the land, with a fountain designed for play at the center. The fountain will become the centering icon for land. As its base, water tables will invite guests to play with the water and have a sensory experience. At night, the fountain will be brought to life in a unique spectacle.

Adding new green space and landscape to Mickey’s Toontown would be pretty welcome. It’s kind of a lot of concrete back there these days. And since it’ll probably be getting a lot more traffic with the new ride – I rarely go back there these days – getting some updates is probably a good idea.
