California’s Great America South Bay Shores Construction Update

California’s Great America might be closed for the 2020 season, but that doesn’t mean work isn’t happening at the park.

With the 2020 season postponed, the park shifted the opening of their new, expanded, waterpark – announced last year – to 2021. The silver lining is this gives the park lots of time to work South Bay Shores and overcome delays caused by construction stoppage at the start of the pandemic.

California’s Great America recently shared an update to the progress on their blog. They also shared some high resolution images of the new attractions with us. Check them out below.

According to the CGA blog, the Pacific Surge slides look “Massive in person!”

The Pacific Surge group of four waterslides is the major “big slide” addition to South Bay Shores. And according to Danny Messinger on the CGA blog, the new slides look “Massive in person!” They should add some exciting new thrills to the water park.

On the other end of the spectrum, crews installed most of the eight small slides for the new Tide Pool lagoon.

Fresh paint and new theming on the old attractions like the re-branded Pups Pier.

And for those worried seeing lots of empty space around South Bay Shores, those will be covered by shade structures and filled with lounge chairs.

Safe to say South Bay Shores should be fully ready for next summer, and expect more construction updates from California’s Great America as the off-season rolls on!
