While Lightning Rod’s precise opening date is unclear (although we’re hoping soon), Dollywood is taking us “under the hood” of the record-breaking wooden coaster in an appropriately titled, behind-the-scenes video series.
The first “Under the Hood” video introduces manufacturer Rocky Mountain Construction’s concept and design phases of what will soon be the world’s fastest and only launched wooden coaster:

Lightning Rod has been in the works for some time. As discussed in the first video, construction of the coaster (or ground preparation) began in January of 2015 — before the coaster’s design was even complete.
The second video takes a closer look at the mechanical and technical aspects of the coaster, including the first-ever linear synchronous motor (LSM) launch system on a wooden coaster.

These videos have definitely revved up my excitement for the record-breaking coaster (I’ll stop with the puns now).

Anyone know what design software they use?
The shot in the second video around 1:35 mark looks like SolidWorks.
