Ferrari World Update

Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi boasts numerous world records, the fastest roller coaster in the world and the world’s largest indoor amusement park.
But what could make this business better? How about more Ferrari World parks, with more world-first attractions ready and waiting?

First let’s talk about the development of the current park. News made public at a global tourism event in London, courtesy of BlooLoop, reports that Ferrari World will be opening a new ride in 2014 that will feature the first electric-powered go-kart track in the local area; they will call it their Karting Academy.

“We are preparing to launch a brand new attraction later this year. Karting Academy will be the first electric powered go-karts in the region,” Bruno Wiley, sales director at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.

With 4D adventures, launch coasters and drop towers inside this will add yet another aspect to the indoor park that is also looking at moving to a seven day a week operation to meet rising customer demand.

“Our move to a 365-days-a-year operation was prompted by the growing entertainment demand on Yas Island, which is now firmly established as a regional leisure destination,” said Mike Oswald, general manager, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.

Seeing the huge and continuing success of their park on Yas Island, the company are looking to expand with plans to build an almost identical park in South Korea. The major difference would be the use of more outdoor areas that are only in place on Yas Island due to the fierce middle-eastern sun.

As noted by Screamscape, “The layout includes water rides, what appears to be a clone of Formula Rossa, another dual track racing coaster similar to the Fiorano GT Challenge coaster and much more. One more item I see is an interesting looking tower with spiral track running around it, which makes me wonder if this might be the Polar Coaster or the more mild Sky Spiral attraction concepts on display at the S&S booth at IAAPA last year, a partnership project between S&S Worldwide and US Thrill Rides.”

A good friend of mine has a family member as a manager of the park; I will beg him for an interview and see what I can get for my next update on this park.
