Top Thrill 2 Construction Update

We visited Cedar Point on Friday, September 22nd to check out all the family fun and frights Halloweekends has to offer. But of course we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get a look at the current construction status of Top Thrill 2, the world’s tallest and fastest triple launch coaster coming in 2024.

Since our last visit in June, the construction site has changed dramatically. The new spike tower is massive already and is almost the same height as the 145-foot-tall Rougarou. Crazy to think that it’s probably only around 25% complete.

For the best view of Top Thrill 2 construction, take a ride on Iron Dragon. It’s a double bonus: get a sweet view and ride one of the four remaining Arrow suspended coasters in North America (but don’t take any pictures or videos while on the ride).

The new 420-foot tower goes right over top of Iron Dragon which will make for some cool new interactions and photo opportunities.

New white track is already starting to climb skyward up the rear spike. Top Thrill 2 will essentially be three coaster experiences combined into one. Think Superman: The Escape plus Superman: Escape from Krypton plus the original Top Thrill Dragster.

At the other end of the strata coaster, painting continues on the tower. Bright red and white has been applied at the summit.

Majority of the supports still need paint.

We can’t wait to experience this 400-foot drop with those sleek looking Lightning trains from Zamperla.

Camp Snoopy affords a brief view of the LSM launch track and brake run which look ready to go.

We can’t wait to see trains traversing the top hat once again.

On the original Top Thrill Dragster, the total amount of time spent going above 100 miles per hour was probably less than six seconds. On Top Thrill 2, I imagine that time will increase dramatically, hitting 101 miles per hour while traveling backwards, then spending the length of the entire launch track from the back spike to the main tower going above 100, and finally hitting 100 mph one final top after the main drop. It’s going to be epic!

Not a lot of visible construction work was going on during our visit but we filmed a few looks at the construction site anyways to give you an idea how massive this thing really is.
