Alaska State Fair to Debut Alaska’s First Permanent Roller Coaster: Aftershock

When the 86th Alaska State Fair opens this weekend in Palmer, Alaska, fairgoers will have the opportunity to ride the state’s first “permanent” roller coaster: Aftershock.

A “Super Cyclon” model from Italian ride manufacturers Interpark, Aftershock features nearly 1200′ of track, stands 40′ tall, and reaches a top speed of 35 miles per hour. The largest drop on the roller coaster is 25′ tall. It has a layout similar to a Zyklon or Galaxi model built by other manufacturers. The ride experience comes in at just about 80 seconds.

“We’re always looking to expand and improve the Fair experience for our fairgoers, and are pleased to have the Aftershock join the carnival as another ride the entire family can enjoy,” Jerome Hertel, Fair general manager, was quoted in a press release.

While it might not seem like the biggest roller coaster out there, according to RCDB, ride owners Golden Wheel Amusements, the official ride providers of the Alaska State Fair, note that it will have a permanent location at the Alaska State Fairgrounds, and be featured exclusively at the fair, making it the first-ever roller coaster to call “The Last Frontier” home.

Riders headed to the Alaska State Fair should take note that a ride on Aftershock will cost $12, and are not included in Golden Wheel Amusement Tickets or Wristbands, as tickets for Aftershock are sold separately. Riders need to be a minimum of 51″ tall, and at least eight years old. Children between 8-10 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
