Myrtle Beach has a new place for families and thrill seekers alike to play. Located at 1405 North Ocean Boulevard between 14th and 15th Avenue, The Funplex Myrtle Beach offers a big punch in a compact footprint. Just one block from the beach and tropically themed, Myrtle Beach’s newest addition features seven family-thrill rides surrounding a walk-up bar and restaurant.
Thoughtfully designed to maximize every square foot, The Funplex parks are built for families and thrill seekers alike. The new Myrtle Beach park’s rides (all manufactured by SBF-Visa Group) are themed to match the Grand Strand beach vibe and include:
- Mach Fun, the tallest, interactive 360° flying jet ride on the market, and first-of-its-kind in North America.
- There is a lot of excitement in the industry right now regarding the new Fun in the Sun roller coaster featuring a lengthy track encircling the perimeter of the park and a hamster wheel car for thrill seekers.
- Guests experience weightlessness and a breathtaking ocean view on Sky Velocity as they twist and turn up a 65-foot tower before dropping back down to reality.
- On Up and Overboard guests will fly high and swing through the air upside down while gravity goes to work.
- Hook & Slice offers guests an adrenaline fix as they wind, whirl and catch air on this thrill ride.
- Hang Ten and the Sunny Day Swings will keep our younger guests, spinning and soaring through the air.
“What excites us the most about this project is that it’s a unique and innovative approach to the classic amusement park,” said Funplex owner Randy Lahn. “This combination of state-of-the art rides in a compact footprint just one block from the beach is unique amusement park concept & debuting in Myrtle Beach.”
Facing Ocean Avenue, Off-the-Coast Beach Bar and Grill, Funplex Myrtle Beach’s newest bar and restaurant, features signature food and drink options just steps from the beach. This two-sided, walkup bar and restaurant offers 13 domestic and local draft beers, exciting frozen drinks in souvenir cups, and traditional bar and seafood options. Off-the-Coast Beach Bar and Grill will offer a complete menu to satisfy the whole family, and features amusement park favorites like funnel cakes and a special Chicken & Waffle Cone appetizer.
“Because this was such a new concept, we got to add some really cool elements that we believe our guests and the industry will love,” said Funplex CEO Brian Williams. “From first generation rides like Mach Fun and the Fun in the Sun Coaster to a light show like no other, Funplex Myrtle Beach is a must-do attraction.”
“We are thrilled to bring the Funplex brand to South Carolina” said Funplex CEO Brian Williams. “Designed for families and thrill seekers alike, The Funplex Myrtle Beach delivers a safe, fun, clean entertainment experience for everyone.”
Open daily, The Funplex offers thrills day and night including a nightly light show after dark. The park and restaurant are free to enter, attractions are individually priced, each requiring a set number of credits that can be loaded onto a FunCard in the amount of a guest’s choosing. I broght my granddaughter & her friend to check out this new attraction and so far I have spent $125 on a ticket package and the kids haven’t rode a single ride. They loaded the roller coaster and then had to exit the ride for a mantenance problem, waited 30 minutes before they could get back on, 8 tickets each =$10 per ride. Then we went to the sky velocity tower ride and the same thing happened! The Mach Fun ride is NOT OPPERATIONAL yet so bottom line is that you have 4 rides total for kids/adults 54-57″ tall, plus a tea cup & small swing ride for smaller children.
I tried the “Off the Coast” Bar & Grill & was not impressed. They did not have all the menu items available, service was good but most of the seating is crowded with people occupying seating without purchasing from the eatery.
Ride attendants were busy talking with one another and was not watching for people to scan their ticket card and I saw many people just get on the rides (Up & overboard, especially) without scanning. The ride attendants at the sky velocity tower were not knowledgeble about the ride weight balancing, which was why this ride would not start, management had to tell them which is not making this grandmother have much confidence in staff or park management.
Extremely confining park and I cannot reccomend this venue at this time. Spent $125.00 on tickets, plus $45.00 on food/beverage for 2 children and myself (which did not ride any rides.)
There are no discounts offered for local residents so I don’t see us returning.
I can say that the restrooms were clean upon arrival, however this was not the case 2 1/2 hours later.?
I had hoped that this would be a nice alternative to the Family Kingdom amusement park however it did not turn out.
Family Kingdom has many more rides for all ages, offers local discounts and WATER RIDES!
