New “Axis” Roller Coaster Model Teased By S&S Sansei Technologies

Roller coaster manufacturer S&S Sansei Technologies released a video teasing a new model of roller coaster they’re working on. The new coaster model, named axis, involves pairs of seats that can swing left and right hanging off of a support bar. The seats can even swing in a full 360 degree rotation. Check out the video below to see what it looks like.

S&S’ most common roller coaster design these days is the 4-D Free Spin models seen at many Six Flags parks. The Axis model looks like it might use similar technology, but instead of flipping riders front to back it flips them left to right. Possibly it also uses similar magnetic technology to control the spinning. This both helps ensure you get a ride with some flips and don’t get rides that are too extreme.

The other coaster it reminds me of is one that I saw at Oktoberfest in 2017. The “Drifting Coaster”, built by Reverchon, similarly has seats that can swing left and right, mounted to a center support. The pairs of seats then swing freely as the coaster makes its way through the unbanked Wild Mouse like track. The S&S teaser makes their model look more advanced, and capable of full flips, but a similar concept.

S&S promises more details on Axis during the IAAPA Expo from November 19-22. We’ll be there, so make sure to follow Coaster101 on Twitter and Like us on Facebook to get all of our IAAPA coverage in a few weeks. For now, what do you think of the Axis concept?
