Alton Towers Opening Rollercoaster Restaurant in 2016

Roller coasters and food? Count me in. A unique dining experience is coming to Alton Towers — a “roller coaster” of a restaurant, to be more precise.

This May, Alton Towers will open the “Rollercoaster Restaurant,” an eatery “set below a vast rollercoaster track where diners can watch as their order tackles two gravity defying loop-the-loops before dropping eight meters (about 26 feet) down the tornado spiral to their table.”

Above is a rendering of the restaurant, which will replace the park’s former “Air Shop” gift store, located above the Air flying coaster station:

It sounds like a miniature roller coaster will serve as your waiter, delivering your order:

Each diner will enjoy a full 360˚ dining experience at one of the 13 tables and will get to select from the brand new menu of family favorites – including the Ultimate Twister Ice Cream Bowl!

The fare served isn’t light — burgers, steaks and, of course, fish & chips — but it does sound delicious. Take a peek at the menu here.

But you may want to wait a while after eating at the restaurant before hopping on one of the parks.

The restaurant will offer two menus depending on the time of day: a lunch menu and a dinner menu.

The park is already taking reservations, so I think they expect it to be a hit with the crowds. The restaurant will be accessible both from the inside and outside of the park, so resort guests as well as park guests will be able to dine.

What do you think about this restaurant concept? Do you think it would work at other parks? …outside of a theme park? Discuss in the comments section below.
