A-Z Coaster of the Week: Jack Rabbit

This week we also jump back to a park we’ve already visited this year: Kennywood! This time, however, we are talking about Jack Rabbit, one of the park’s wooden coasters. Opened in 1920, Jack Rabbit is one of the oldest operating roller coasters in the world.

Kennywood built this ACE Coaster Classic for a whopping $50,000. Unlike the majority of other coasters, Jack Rabbit has two drops and a tunnel before the lift hill.

The ride also features a unique double-down element following the lift. This feature is known to give riders extreme airtime, causing them to feel as if they were flying out of the seats! I know from experience that this is one of the best airtime moments there is; the whole car feels like it’s going to come off the tracks!

Jack Rabbit was designed by John A. Miller and Harry C. Baker. They did a wonderful job of using the terrain for the ride. The height of the coaster is only 40 feet, while the drop is 70 feet. You will hit a max speed of 45 mph while manuevering the coaster’s 2,132 feet of track.

Jack Rabbit is a truly special coaster, not only for its age and unique elements, but because of the fun it brings to its riders. Make sure to give it a ride next time your at Kennywood! Who else has been on this great coaster?
