New Renderings of Luna Park’s Thunderbolt

Earlier this month, Luna Park released updated renderings of its new-for-2014 coaster, Thunderbolt. The Zamperla steel coaster is a nod of sorts to the Coney Island wooden coasters of long ago.

But it’s no classic wooden coaster. Riders will see only the sky as they ascend the vertical 125-foot lift hill.

Riders cresting the lift hill will witness beautiful city views before plunging vertically into the first inversion: a vertical loop.

Following the vertical loop, riders will maneuver through a stretched corkscrew inversion.

The immelman element doubles as the turning point of Thunderbolt’s out-and-back layout.

The ride’s entrance will be situated on the boardwalk…

Although narrow, Thunderbolt’s layout stretches a considerable distance from the boardwalk.

In late January, the park shared the below photo of the coaster’s track being manufactured at a Zamperla facility:

Surely it won’t be long before we see vertical construction at Luna Park. The coaster is scheduled to open in May.
