A year has passed since Hurricane Sandy ravaged the East Coast of the U.S. One of the iconic shots of the storm was Casino Pier’s Star Jet standing partially submerged in the Atlantic Ocean:
The storm nearly obliterated the pier itself. But brighter days are ahead for the seaside park. The coaster has since been removed and some of the pier’s rides have reopened.
The park shared the below collage of progress shots on Facebook. Crews have made been working diligently since last year to bring the pier back to its former glory:
The work’s not over. Crews are currently tearing down the “upper deck” of the pier ahead of reconstruction:
The pier’s rides are currently being packed up for the off season, but they’ll return in time for the 2014 season.
The pier shared the above photo from Light Up New Jersey, an event commemorating the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy’s landfall.
We wish the Casino Pier family the best 2014 season as they continue to move forward following such devastation.
