Thorpe Park Adding Hyperia, U.K.’s Tallest, Fastest Roller Coaster, in 2024

We officially have a name for the mysterious “Project Exodus” at Thorpe Park, and it’s going to be a record breaker in the United Kingdom. Today the park announced Hyperia, a brand new roller coaster that when it opens, will be the tallest and fastest in the U.K.

Hyperia will tower 236ft tall and reach speeds of over 80mph, and according to the park, “once you’ve experienced Hyperia you’ll never fear again.”

Though officially not confirmed in the release from the park, the roller coaster is believed to be manufactured by MACK Rides (according to RCDB), and is themed to the “fearless goddess” Hyperia, who Thorpe Park notes has a story that “is yet to be told.”

Hyperia breaks the UK height record by 23′ over “Big One” at Blackpool Pleasure Beach (216′) which has held the record since 1994. It will be just the third roller coaster in the United Kingdom to top 200′ tall. At speeds of “more than 80 mph,” it narrowly outpaces its fellow Thorpe Park coaster “Stealth,” an Intamin Accelerator coaster that opened in 2006.

Hyperia will be the first new roller coaster to open at the Surrey, England theme park since Swarm, a B&M wing coaster, in 2012.

This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
