Universal Studios Beijing Unveils New Details About Lands and Attractions

Way back in 2014, construction began on the newest addition to the Universal Parks & Resorts family: Universal Studios Beijing. Since then, we’ve gotten some details about the park, and seen some great construction photos from the immersive lands. This morning, however, we got some brand new images and video about the upcoming park, which is still on schedule to open in 2021. Take a look at the new photos of the new park, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Update: Since this article was published, the Themeparx forums have acquired some amazing closeup pictures of the park under construction. You can find them here.

One brand new land debuting at the park is themed to everyone’s favorite alien robots, and is called Transformers Metrobase.

This will be the first theme park land fully dedicated to Transformers, and will feature a few notable attractions. First is the B&M-built clone of The Incredible Hulk Coaster, which at Universal Beijing will be called Decepticoaster.

It features a different paint job than the Orlando version, sporting a mostly grey track, and a mechanical themed lift hill. The trains appear identical to the Hulk ones, except that the Beijing version’s will be blue-grey, and will still feature the awesome headlights. It is not clear whether the trains will include on-board audio like The Incredible Hulk Coaster.

The other ride that was shown in this teaser video is called Bumblebee Boogie, and looks to be similar to Storm Force Accelatron, the teacup style ride at the Universal Orlando.

There is also what is presumed to be a restaurant, called the Energon Power station.

The resort will also have a version of the Transformers: The Ride 3D attraction which is popular at the other Universal locations, called Battle for the Allspark.

The next land will be called Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, and themed to the Valley of Peace, which can be seen in the Kung Fu Panda movies and television shows.

This appears to be an indoor section of the park, and features a boat ride called Kung Fu Panda Journey of the Dragon Warrior.

There will also be a Hollywood themed land, which will be a covered outdoor section featuring shops and restaurants.

There will also be a show called “Lights, Camera, Action!” in this area that appears to have been worked on by Steven Spielberg and Zhang Yimou, a Chinese film director.

Another brand new land coming to Universal Studios Beijing is Jurassic World Isla Nublar.

Themed around the newer movies in the franchise, Jurassic World Isla Nublar features the Jurassic World Visitors center on the main street area.

Also included will be something called The Aviary, which in the video shows real Pteranodons, so I am very curious how that will be executed in physical form when the park opens.

There will also be a kids’ area themed to Camp Jurassic, with what looks to be a new version of the family suspended coaster like at Universal Orlando.

This looks to be one of the premiere lands at the park, and the video shows some seriously impressive rockwork and theming.

The land will also include a dark ride called Jurassic World Adventure, which will use the Oceaneering vehicles similar to Transformers: The Ride 3D and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man. This will not be like the Jurassic-themed boat rides located at the other Universal parks, so it will interesting to see how Universal will handle a non-water Jurassic World attraction.

Also included in the Jurassic World section will be a restaurant called Hammond’s, presumably named after Jurassic Park’s John Hammond. I’m assuming this restaurant will be pretty upscale, after all, they spared no expense!

Next up is the WaterWorld land, which will feature the legendary WaterWorld stunt show, made famous by Universal Studios Hollywood.

The land also looks like it will be home to a pier area with appropriately themed shops and restaurants.

Also featured at Universal Studios Beijing will be Minion Land, a land themed to Illumination’s ever-popular Despicable Me characters, and will house the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem dark ride attraction.

This looks to be a larger land, and will feature a Super Silly Fun Land area, similar to Universal Studios Hollywood.

There is also an indoor theater, which will house “Sing on Tour,” a show featuring the characters from Illumination’s 2016 film “Sing”.

In what has become a Universal Studios staple, the new park will also have a Wizarding World of Harry Potter land.

The land will be home to a clone of the revolutionary dark ride, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey as well as the family coaster Flight of the Hippogriff.

The Wizarding World will also include The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle, a projection and firework show that can be seen at some of the other Universal parks.

In addition to the lands and rides, the announcement included the unveiling of two hotels. One of which is The Universal Studios Grand Hotel.

This hotel will also double as a park entrance on the ground level.

Another hotel, which looks to be themed more to China itself, will be called the Nuo Resort Hotel.

Universal Studios Beijing will also include a Citywalk shopping and dining area, featuring some of the other favorite restaurants from the other Universal Parks.
