Sidewinder Safari Spinning Coaster Coming to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in 2020

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has announced their new 2020 attraction, and it’s going to be part roller coaster, part animal exhibit. Guests will be thrilled in multiple ways by Sidewinder Safari when it opens at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in 2020.

The park is referring to the attraction as a “one-of-a-kind, combination thrilling family coaster and animal exhibit”. Before boarding the ride, you’ll be immersed in a safari themed queue where you’ll encounter live snakes and other reptile species before boarding spinning coaster vehicles for an exhilarating experience through 1,378 feet of slithering track.

Sidewinder Safari is a spinning wild mouse “Twister Coaster” model from Zamperla, and based on the track length, will be nearly identical to Ragin’ Cajun at Six Flags America (and formerly Six Flags Great Adventure.)

Reaching a height of more than 40 feet and almost 30 mph, Sidewinder Safari will guests in 4-passenger trains on a journey that features “slithering turns, venomous drops and chaotic spins.” Having ridden Ragin’ Cajun, I can attest to all of these superlatives!

“As the world leader in thrills, Six Flags continues to raise the bar to deliver the most unique and innovative experiences in the industry,” said Park President Don McCoy. “Sidewinder Safari is unlike any other ride in Northern California, featuring the thrill of a unique, spinning roller coaster combined with an up-close-and-personal reptile encounter for an unparalleled ‘wow’ experience.”

Six Flags promises the animal exhibit in the queue will have a rotating array of animals. That combined with the variance in the spinning on every ride will mean that the experience is different on every visit.
