Six Flags Darien Lake Opens SkyScreamer

Darien Lake has opened for the 2019 season with a new name and a new “star” attraction: the Six Flags SkyScreamer. Adding to the excitement, the park has officially rejoined the Six Flags family and is reclaiming the “Six Flags Darien Lake” name.

Six Flags SkyScreamer is a “Star Flyer” model from ride manufacturer Funtime. The spinning-swing tower rides (of varying heights) can be found at numerous other Six Flags properties. Darien Lake’s model stands 242 feet tall and spins at 35 mph. It claims the title of the tallest ride in New York State.

For the first time since 2007, Darien Lake once again carries the “Six Flags” name. Six Flags operated the park last year as simply “Darien Lake.”

And while Six Flags operates the park, it remains under the ownership of EPR Properties, which in late 2016 purchased Darien Lake and others in the CNL Lifestyle family, which included parks such as Magic Springs in Arkansas and Frontier City in Oklahoma City.

“Six Flags continues to lead the way in innovation as we bring the state’s tallest ride to Western New York. We are thrilled to add this shining beacon and iconic landmark to the Six Flags Darien Lake skyline,” said Six Flags Darien Lake park president Chris Thorpe.

“From this impressive tower guests will soar high among the clouds, taking in majestic views of the park and surrounding countryside below.”

Sky Screamer at Six Flags Darien Lake is now open. For more information, visit the park’s website.
