Knott’s Berry Farm Announces Details of 2017 Soak City Expansion

After their major renovation of GhostRider and Ghost Town this year in honor of the 75th anniversary of the oldest area of the park, Knott’s Berry Farm has decided to focus on their water park for 2017.  In the first of a series of announcements coming in the next couple of days from Cedar Fair parks, Knott’s announced their big 2017 addition, an expansion and upgrade to their Soak City waterpark.  Next May, when Soak City opens for the summer, it will feature two new slide towers featuring multiple new water slides. The park officially announced the details (and names) of the new attractions today.

The first of the new towers, Shore Break, will be the addition for thrill seekers. It will add six different water slides coming off a 60 foot tower. Four of the slides are going to feature “Aqua-Launch” chambers at the start, the type where the floor drops out from under the rider sending them hurtling vertical down into the slide. Shore Break will also have a pair of dueling tube slides that will, according to the press release, “zip riders through an enchanting series of drops and turns.”

The second tower, The Wedge, will be more family friendly open air raft ride. On it, up to six riders will descend down navigating “twists and turns and surprise drops.” The height requirements for all the slides will be 48 inches, although guests over 40 inches can ride with a 48 inch tall companion on The Wedge raft slide. In order to fit in The Wedge, the current Pacific Spin will be removed.

Along with the ride additions, Knott’s is updating their shaded seating, cabanas, and remodeling Long Board’s Grill as part of the Soak City upgrade. Construction on all of this will begin on September 12 when Soak City closes for the winter, and is expected to be done in May for the Soak City summer opening.
