This week’s coaster has already had the honor of being an A-Z Coaster of the Week. Before being moved to Kings Island, X-Flight got its start another Ohio park. In 2001, Six Flags Worlds of Adventure opened the Midwest’s first flying coaster.
X-Flight expanded the region’s coaster variety and excited many coaster enthusiasts, including me. I remember finally getting the chance to ride it and being blown away with the sense of flying it creates. X-Flight is a very unique ride, there are only a few of these Vekoma Flying Dutchmans in existence.

In 2006, Cedar Fair bought Six Flags Worlds of Adventure and it was announced that X-Flight would be relocated to a sister park. The next year Kings Island was given the ride and it was renamed Firehawk. Unfortunately, the downsizing plan Cedar Fair had for Geauga Lake failed and the park closed. Most of the rides were moved to other parks.
Did anyone have the chance to ride X-Flight at its original location? Stay tuned next week for the “Y” Coaster!
Geauga lake was the park that got me hooked on amusement parks and I remember riding this ride for the first time. What an incredible ride it was, it is exactly like flying the biggest scare on the ride was when the train rolls over at the top of the lift hill. Before that point you were laying on your back the whole trip up the hill and no idea how high you really were. There is a much larger scene of height and danger hanging from the bottom of the train rolling over the first drop and staring at the ground rushing towards you. There is not much to compare it to but x-flight has always been one of my favorite roller coasters.
