Playland’s Castaway Cove announces GaleForce Coaster

Playland’s Castaway Cove in Ocean City, New Jersey announced GaleForce, a 125-foot tall launched coaster to debut in 2016. The 12 passenger car will launch back and forth until it reaches 64 mph where it will ascend the 125 foot tall top hat before plunging into a beyond ninety-degree drop. It’s the first launched El Loco style coaster by S&S Power and has been under development on-and-off for about three years. The compact layout immediately has coaster fans drawing comparisons with Premier Ride’s Sky Rocket II model, like Tempesto at Busch Gardens, a popular design being installed all over the world.

Another Coaster to be Announced Soon

As you can see in this aerial image from Google maps, Playland’s Castaway Cove is pretty landlocked. The park has stated GaleFroce and another soon-to-be-named roller coaster will replace the amusement park’s current coasters, looping Python and Flitzer (seen off of 10th Street).  From the Shore News Today: “There’s actually going to be another coaster that’s going in. I can’t talk about the details of that yet, but it’s going wrap around that coaster.”

It’s always great to see a relatively unknown park get put on the map because of a new and unique coaster project. 2016 is quickly shaping up to be a great year for new roller coasters, with 10 announced coasters and at least four more confirmed. Could 2016 be one of the best years for new coasters ever?

What do you think of GaleForce? Would you rather have this ride at your home park or a Premier Sky Rocket model?
