New Coasters and More Revealed for Wizard of Oz Land at Movie World Australia

Warner Bros. Movie World in Australia is home to world-renowned rides like DC Rivals and Superman Escape, but later this year they will open one of their most ambitious projects yet, an entire new land themed to the Wizard of Oz. The park has released the following:

“Prepare to Journey Over the Rainbow with a world-first Wizard of Oz precinct including two new family-friendly rides coming to Warner Bros. Movie World in 2024! Embark on a wicked adventure aboard Flight of the Wicked Witch and experience an ultimate twist on Kansas Twister. Plus, immerse yourself in thematic elements including projection mapping, stunning sculptures, and facades as you follow The Yellow Brick Road.”

In addition to the highly themed immersive land, this expansion comes with two (technically three) new coasters. One will be Flight of the Wicked Witch, a Vekoma suspended family coaster. The coaster will feature a heavily themed queue and station, and will stand at 62 ft tall with a top speed of 42mph as the coaster traverses 1,490 ft of track. According to the concept art, it will also feature a station flythrough.

The second attraction is a pair of intertwined Vekoma family shuttle boomerangs called Kansas Twister. These two coasters will reach a height of 72 feet as they are pulled backwards out of the barn-themed station, and then drop to reach a top speed of 36mph as the tracks turn and twist over one another across 738 ft of track, and then do it all backwards once they go up and down the twin spikes at the end of the layout.

It’s exciting that Movie World is getting further into the immersive space, and with promises of projection mapped environments and highly themed facades and attractions, it seems like the world’s first Wizard of Oz land will be a must-see when it opens later this year.
