This week we travel to Kings Island to ride one of the most unique roller coasters in the world, Firehawk. Relocated from Geauga Lake in 2007, this is only one of two 1018M Vekoma Flying Dutchman roller coasters built.

Located in the X-Base section of the park, this flying coaster uses a unique double station, riders board the the train sitting up first, then once riders have been loaded and strapped in the vests and lap bars, the train is then lowered into the laying position.

Exiting the station, the train heads up a 115 foot lift hill with the riders lying on their back. Once the train leave the lift, it turn into the first lie-to-fly element, dropping face first at 50 mph into a horseshoe over banked turn. Riders are then flipped from fly-to-lie and then goes into the 66 foot tall loop. Going from lie-to-fly again, the coaster then takes a turn into the double in-line twist then into the helix where it finishes with another fly-to-lie into the brake run.

This 2 minute, 10 second roller coaster is one I recommend riding considering that there are so few of these in the world. It might be a bit rough in some spots, but it’s certainly more unique than some of the B&M Flyers.
