Nickelodeon Universe Opens at American Dream

Nickelodeon Universe, the largest indoor theme park in the Western Hemisphere, officially opened for guests on Friday, October 25, 2019, at the massive American Dream mall and entertainment complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Nickelodeon celebration without a parade led by SpongeBob SquarePants.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy was also on hand to take a spin on some of the new rides, including the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) Shellraiser.

The Shellraiser is now the world’s steepest roller coaster at an angle of 121.5 degrees.

The Nickelodeon Slime Streak is a more family-friendly coaster manufactured by Chance Rides that weaves throughout the park.

Slime Streak stands 70 feet above the midway below.

Invader Zim’s Flip & Spin is like a classic bumper car attraction on steroids — riders can flip, spin, and bump into fellow riders.

Kraang Prime Pandemonium! is a 360-degree pendulum swing.

The Aang’s Air Gliders attraction is inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The Fairly OddAirways is a milder spinning ride for families with younger pilots.

Another record-breaker at the park is The Legends of the Hidden Temple Challenge, the world’s tallest adventure ropes course.

The dog-themed Paw Patrol Adventure Bay play area features slides, climb structures and rescue-play activities.

The elevated blue track in the above photo is Dora’s Sky Railway, which gives guests a tour of the park from above.

Some of the park’s major rides — as of this posting — were not operational. These included:

  • Shredder, the world’s tallest and longest spinning coaster
  • Timmy’s Half Pipe Havoc, an Intamin half-pipe shuttle coaster
  • Sandy’s Blasting Bronco, an Intamin launch coaster
  • Nickelodeon Skyline Scream, the world’s tallest indoor spinning drop tower

In total, the park is home to more than 20 rides and attractions.

Also opening at American Dream this weekend is”The Rink,” one of the few NHL-size skating and hockey rinks in the region.

Additional attractions inside American Dream will open in the coming months:

  • DreamWorks Water Park: November 27, 2019
  • Big SNOW American Dream (indoor snow park): December 5, 2019
  • 450+ retail, food and entertainment offerings: March 2020
