Florida’s Only Fully Wooden Coaster, Coastersaurus, Reopens at LEGOLAND
The state of Florida is notorious for not being kind to wooden roller coasters with most of them being removed, converted to a fully steel hybrid, or receiving steel topper track in certain sections. And now, LEGOLAND Florida is home to the only fully wooden coaster in the state, Coastersaurus. This ride opened as Triple Hurricane in 2004 when the park was still Cypress Gardens, with PTC trains. After LEGOLAND took over, they renamed it Coastersaurus and gave it a mini version of Millennium Flyer trains.
Made by Martin & Vleminckx (now called MV Rides), this coaster received an extensive re-tracking by the company after being closed since the beginning of 2026. We had a chance to go and try out the coaster which just reopened on August 16th to celebrate National Roller Coaster Day.
This was actually my first time riding the coaster, since it was still under renovation when I visited the park for the first time earlier this year to ride Galacticoaster. Because of this, I can’t compare it to the prior version, but I can say the new version is incredibly smooth. It is so great to get on a wood coaster that feels modern with new trains and track, but still has that classic touch of a layout featuring airtime hills, a turnaround, and great laterals.
There’s no big drops, the hills are all very shallow, and with a height of 40 feet this ride is very accessible for families, which is the target demographic for LEGOLAND. There are also some fun LEGO theming elements in the entry area that reinforce the dinosaur theme.
I think there’s no better time than right now to visit LEGOLAND, thanks to school being in session the lines were basically nonexistent, even for the world-class new addition, Galacticoaster. If you’re visiting Florida or if you’re a local and you’ve never been to this park, check it out and let us know in the comments below what you think!
