Six Flags Great America Officially Kicks Off 50th Anniversary Celebration
This weekend, Six Flags Great America officially kicked off the park’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, a summer-long event that celebrates the park’s 50-year milestone with new live entertainment, limited-time food offerings and an abundance of nostalgia.
Six Flags Great America 50th Anniversary Nighttime Spectacular
Six Flags Great America’s 50th Anniversary Celebration features an all-new nighttime spectacular with a drone show created exclusively for the park. Each night, hundreds of synchronized drones will light up the sky, accompanied by music, storytelling and pyrotechnic effects.
The nighttime experience also includes the new “50 Years of Thrills” Parade, complete with new floats as well as “Memories in Motion,” a high-energy stage production celebrating five decades of Great America memories.

Guests can also sample a lineup of specialty menu items created for the anniversary, including:
- Chicken Alfredo Pizza
- Buffalo Chicken Pizza
- Hand-Battered Chicken Tender Salad
- Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeño Poppers
- Loaded Italian Beef Tater Tots
- Birthday Cake Funnel Cake (loaded with white cake pieces, whipped cream, and confetti sprinkles)
And in a nod to the park’s debut season, the Firehouse Ice Cream Parlor returns with limited-time flavors inspired by Great America’s history.
The park is also offering a specialty tasting pass to sample items throughout the celebration.
Six Flags Great America 5oth Anniversary Entertainment
Entertainment offerings around the park will pay tribute to each decade of the park’s 50-year history. New shows include:
- Retro Rhythms, featuring 1970s-inspired music and choreography
- The Pitch Pipes, a modern take on barbershop harmony
- Sadie Sue’s Snowshoe Saloon, an interactive Wild West mystery show
Guests will also encounter the Golden Block Party, a colorful street celebration honoring the park’s history.
Finally, the new “Along for the Ride” documentary showcases rare footage and stories from the park’s first 50 years.
Six Flags Great America Legacy Museum
The park’s Emporium gift shop will feature a curated collection of historic items, artifacts and memorabilia from the park’s 50-year history.
“This summer’s anniversary celebration brings that legacy to life in new and exciting ways, from our all-new nighttime spectacular to specialty food and entertainment throughout the park. It’s a chance for guests to celebrate what made the park special in 1976 while experiencing something entirely new.”
