9 Songs We Wish Made “The Rock N Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets” Set List

Last week, Disney announced a new set-list for the re-opening of Rock N Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Instead of Aerosmith providing the soundtrack – as they have since the roller coaster opened in 1999, there is a new soundtrack for the attraction.

Led by iconic Muppet musical group Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem, the five songs in this iteration of Rock N Roller coaster are all cover versions of existing songs with just one including the original artist – Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop) by Def Leppard. While we can’t wait until late May to experience these Electric Mayhem covers ourselves – the release of the set-list got us thinking a “what-if” scenario about other songs that could have been utilized for the attraction.

Over the years, there have been a number of Muppet covers of popular music, and the same in reverse – popular musicians covering songs from The Muppets’ universe, along with countless songs that have appeared in Muppet films!

Here’s a list of nine songs that we wish had been included in the new Rock N Roller Coaster set list!

Can You Picture That – Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem

If we’re going to go all-in on Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem for the Muppet overlay of Rock N Roller Coaster, why not start with their most iconic original song – “Can You Picture That” from 1979’s The Muppet Movie. And yes, I only want the original version from 1979. There was “refreshed” version of the song for the 2023 Disney+ Series The Muppets Mayhem, which would obviously make more sense from a “corporate synergy” stand point – but I feel like the energy of the original better suits this attraction.

The Muppet Show Theme – OK Go

Maybe this is an unconventional pick – but in 2011, Disney released The Green Album, which featured pop musicians covering songs originally made famous by The Muppets. Track one on that album was a cover of The Muppet Show’s earworm of a theme song by alt rockers OK Go – of Here It Goes Again fame. (It’s the treadmill music video. Look it up.) It might not really fit the pacing of the track, but I think it’d be just quirky enough to work.

Bohemian Rhapsody – The Muppets

Another pre-existing Muppets cover, this version of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody was released in 2009. We realize portions of Bohemian Rhapsody don’t necessarily fit the fast-paced 0-57mph nature of Rock N Roller Coaster, we would suggest a video screen ahead of the launch tunnel that starts at approximately 2:20 with Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, builds anticipation as the Muppets perform, and then the launch syncs with Beaker’s “meeee” at 2:50. Is 30 seconds too long to sit on a coaster track to build anticipation? Maybe!

Movin’ Right Along – Alkaline Trio

Another entry from The Green Album, Alkaline Trio’s cover of Movin’ Right Along would actually fit the fast-paced Rock N Roller coaster quite well, and I’d probably prefer it over the original version from Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear from The Muppet Movie. It could also hold the distinction as the answer to the highly specific trivia question “What’s the only song associated with the Muppets to be on-ride audio for two Central Florida roller coasters?” (We ranked the original #7 of 113 on “The Definitive Ranking of Every Song on Hollywood Rip Ride & Rockit.“)

Jungle Boogie – Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem feat. Sam Eagle

How do you finally make it up to Sam Eagle for not performing his “glorious three hour finale” in Muppetvision: 3-D? By making him a co-star of the new Rock N Roller Coaster soundtrack. In performing Kool & The Gang’s 1973 hit Jungle Boogie with Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem, Sam begins to embrace the absurdity of the song, which would sync pretty nicely to the elements of the attraction. Imagine that gong hit right before the launch – what abouth Dr. Teeth’s yell? Two iconic moments that could kick this coaster off the right way!

Dancing In The Moonlight – Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem

Originally recorded for the “Muppets Haunted Mansion,” Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem’s cover of Dancing in the Moonlight by King Harvest could also actually be a decent fit for the Rock N Roller Coaster building – especially with much of the ride taking place in the dark!

Me Party – Amy Adams & Miss Piggy

There’s a definite disco vibe in Me Party, performed by Amy Adams and Miss Piggy in the 2011 film, The Muppets. While a lot of the songs on this list lean more towards rock (and all of the songs on the previous version of the coaster echoed this as well) – the addition of a disco dance track could create a new energy inside the G-Force records building – even if the “Me Party” is experienced by 24 riders at once.

Mr. Blue Sky – Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem

From a purely “roller coaster soundtrack” perspective – Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem covering the Electric Light Orchestra’s Mr. Blue Sky feels like it would fit the Rock N Roller Coaster layout the best. Plus, the music video highlights Zoot – the Electric Mayhem saxophonist who is probably under appreciated as it relates to other Electric Mayhem members. Repainting and relighting the launch tunnel with a blue sky motif could really set the tone for this attraction if Mr. Blue Sky was on the soundtrack.

Mahna Mahna – Bip Bippadotta & The Snowths

Is this a serious contender for an actual song we’d like to hear? Probably not. But we had to put it on the list anyway. Enjoy!

Rock N Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 26. Be sure to stay tuned to the official Disney Park channels for more information!
