Details Revealed for Family Kingdom’s New-For-2026 RMC Raptor
One of the most surprising announcements at last fall’s IAAPA Expo in Orlando came from Rocky Mountain Construction. The company announced they were building their next single-rail Raptor roller coaster at a location that came as a surprise to many coaster enthusiasts: the seaside Family Kingdom Amusement Park in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Other than an opening date of “2026” and a note that it would be a “custom” design – 100′ tall, 50mph – details on the new attraction were fairly sparse in November. However, it’s now the end of February, and details have begun to trickle out. During a recent visit to the park with the American Coaster Enthusiasts – our buddy Michael Dutterer, ACE’s Southeastern Assistant Regional rep maybe better known by his social media channels “Coasters, Haunts, and Dark Rides” received some new information about the upcoming roller coaster, and was kind enough to share a digital POV of the upcoming attraction for our viewing enjoyment on his TikTok and Instagram.

Family Kingdom RMC Layout
Family Kingdom and Rocky Mountain Construction provided a few more details for the still to-be-named coaster, which will be the park’s fourth roller coaster credit.
- First up, while we don’t have an official opening date – the southeast’s first single rail coaster has an opening timeframe of “Late Summer 2026.” Think closer to Labor Day than Memorial Day.
- The coaster’s name was not revealed – the only hint given was “We’re near the ocean, use your imagination.”
- The coaster will stand 100 feet tall, nearly 30 feet taller than the historic Swamp Fox wooden coaster, and right around the average height of a smaller RMC Raptor model. (Some are listed around 105′ tall, while Fire Runner is listed as 92′ tall.)
- Like nearly every other RMC Raptor coaster – save for the “Thrill” side of YoY at Walibi Holland, which has 6 inversions – the Family Kingdom Raptor will feature 3 inversions.

- The new coaster will feature five (5) unique airtime moments.
- With 1,920′ of track, Family Kingdom’s new attraction will be 100′ longer than the original “Raptor” layouts like Railblazer at California’s Great America and Wonder Woman Golden Lasso Coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, but slightly shorter than the advertised length Fire Runner at Lost Island, the most recent RMC Raptor to open in the United States.
- The coaster will have a top speed of 52mph, slightly more than the advertised original speed of 50mph.
- The concept video shows bright red track – we are unsure if this is just concept art or will be the final finished product.
- The first of 28 deliveries will arrive next week.
Looking at the layout compared to Fire Runner at Lost Island, it appears to be a very similar design – with probably a few subtle differences that aren’t noticeable to my untrained eye. [Edit: there is an additional airtime hill at the end and the brake run is switch to the opposite side, so there is a left-hand turn into the station instead of a right-hand turn.]
