Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland is Getting an Update
We already knew that Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run is getting a new mission this Spring to coincide with the release of the new Mandalorian and Grogu movie on May 22, but now we know a lot more is changing in Galaxy’s Edge – ie. Star Wars Land – at Disneyland this Spring.

The Disney Parks blog shared the news that starting on April 29 the “Timeline” of Galaxy’s Edge is expanding to include more eras of Star Wars. In short, this means us olds will finally be able to meet our friends from the original Star Wars trilogy around Batuu. Or, as the Parks blog put it:
“New storylines will be brought to life on Batuu, spanning multiple eras of the planet’s rich history. These updates will enable you to experience the Galactic Civil War and New Republic, as well as the Age of the Resistance and First Order.”
So favorites like Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker will finally be around. The post hints Luke will tend to be around the lightsaber building area, while Han and Leia hang around near the Millennium Falcon (or maybe the Cantina in Han’s case).
But it won’t just be the older characters, you’ll still see Ahsoka or the Mandalorian near the marketplace, while the area around Rise of the Resistance will keep to the timeline of the final trilogy, with Rey around the Resistance camp. And R2-D2 will be able to roll through all of the “timelines”, presumably.
It’s not just limited to meeting new (old) characters though, the land is also getting design changes, the biggest of which might be in the soundtrack. While Galaxy’s Edge had generally had mostly sound effects as the background noise, to try to immerse you in the land, now we’ll be getting a score. A soundtrack from John Williams pulling themes from the first six films will fill the land. As the Parks Blog put it, “Passing through the tunnels of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the iconic “Main Title” and Force Theme will beckon you to a galaxy far, far away. ”
The updated theme also includes some changes to the shops and buildings around the land. First Order Cargo is becoming Black Spire Surplus, pulling it away from the specific timeline, and allowing it to carry merch from all eras of Star Wars. Dok Ondar’s will get new items from across the films as well, and the Droid Depot will be operated by an “earlier generation of the Mubo family.” (no, I don’t know what that means.)
The land will still have two nightime shows, “Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga.” regularly and “Fire of the Rising Moons” on select nights.

As I mentioned at the top, these changes are all coming pretty soon, April 29! With the update to Smuggler’s Run at the end of May, its nice to see a refresh coming to Galaxy’s Edge (remember, it’s almost 7 years old at this point!). The blog post didn’t mention any changes for the Orlando Galaxy’s Edge, so for now it sounds like these might be California only. For more details you can check out the Disney Parks blog post here.
