Country’s Highest Looping Coaster Opens

Today marks the opening of Defiance, the country’s highest looping roller coaster, at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. Situated at 7,132 feet above sea level, Defiance features a 102.3 degree, 110-foot freefall drop and also boasts the steepest freefall drop in the Western United States. Built into the side of Iron Mountain, Defiance combines an incredible setting with unparalleled thrills for a one-of-a-kind ride.

“With record-breaking elements, Defiance is sure to become instantly recognizable around the world,” said Nancy Heard, General Manager of Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. “Perched atop America’s only mountain-top theme park, riders will experience a thrill and view unlike any other and we are looking forward to giving our guests this unique experience.”

Riders will see breathtaking views of Colorado and Roaring Fork Rivers, Mount Sopris, South Canyon, Glenwood Canyon and the City of Glenwood Springs during the 75-foot vertical climb to the top. The coaster reaches speeds of 56 miles per hour and includes action-packed elements such as a 98-foot Twisted Top Hat, an 111-foot high speed bank Banana Roll, and 41-foot intense Zero-G heartline-roll.

Defiance was manufactured by industry-leader Gerstlauer Amusement Rides, GmbH, in partnership with Ride Entertainment. “This will certainly be one of the most formidable installations we have faced,” said Ed Hiller, CEO of Ride Entertainment before the ride was officially unveiled.
