Top Thrill Dragster Won’t Open in 2022

Sorry speed fans, looks like Top Thrill Dragster won’t be opening this year. According to a report by the Sandusky Register the Intamin Accelerator coaster will remain closed for the 2022 season.

“(Top Thrill Dragster) will remain closed for the 2022 season,” park spokesman Tony Clark told the Register.

State officials had been investigating the ride after a coaster part struck a guest who was waiting in the queue back in August 2021. The investigators released a report right before the announcement that they had closed the investigation. The report found that there was “insufficient evidence” that the park had violated any laws.

Clark’s statement continued, “Today we received the results of the investigation by the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Division of Amusement Ride Safety & Fairs, which determined that ‘after examining the documentation provided and conducting interviews of Cedar Point staff, ODA found no evidence that Cedar Point had knowledge of or reason to believe that the Top Thrill Dragster was in an unsafe condition that could cause a hazard to riders, employees, or the public on Aug. 15, 2021.'”

So, good news is that Top Thrill Dragster will likely re-open someday, but the bad news is it won’t be this year. You can find more information, including the full State Report, from WKYC.
