Emperor at SeaWorld San Diego Opening March 12!

Emperor, the new B&M Dive Coaster that’s been in the works at SeaWorld San Diego since before the pandemic has an opening date! The park announced on Twitter that Emperor opens to the public on March 12, 2022.

The 153 foot penguin themed coaster is the first B&M Dive Coaster to open on the West Coast. The 143 foot drop will get it up to 60 mph, and the layout features multiple inversions, including a barrel roll and Immelman loop. Emperor will be the smallest dive coaster in the US, but pretty comparable in size to popular European Dive Coasters like Valyria at Liseberg and Baron 1898 at Efteling. The trains seat six across, also smaller than the other North American models as well.

Construction on the ride had nearly finished in 2020 before the park shut down, and we’ve been looking forward to it for awhile. It’s already been on a few of our annual most anticipated coaster lists!

While Emperor opens to the public on March 12, there will be some passholder exclusive ride time opportunities from March 2 to March 11, depending on your pass level. All the details of that can be found on the SeaWorld San Diego website.

As always, make sure you’re following us on Twitter and Facebook for all other ride opening dates! And you can find all park opening dates on our regularly updated post. And hey, Iron Gwazi also got an opening date announcement today, if you’re thinking of heading to the East Coast.
