3 Reasons to Get a Fun Spot Season Pass

The Fun Spot America chain of parks has always been high on my to-do list and it just so happened 2021 was going to be my year to hit all three. While planning some early summer trips, it became clear that one, I was going to be able to visit all of their parks and two, that it would be in my best interest to become a passholder. It was a great decision. Here is why if you are going to visit the Fun Spot parks (even just the Florida ones) you should invest in a season pass:

1. The Price

I was going to be in Atlanta one weekend in May and planned to check out Fun Spot America Atlanta. Then soon after I was going to be down in Florida for a week, so I figured I could probably make multiple visits to the Orlando and Kissimmee parks. With a season pass coming in at $100, I thought it would easily pay for itself in a couple visits. The roller coasters at the Florida parks run at $10 per ride and in Atlanta run at $5 per ride. Between the coasters, a few flat rides, and their incredible go-kart collection, I wasn’t worried about not getting my money’s worth.

During my week in Florida I was able to visit the Kissimmee park twice and the Orlando park once, including six rides each on their E-ticket coasters White Lighting and Mine Blower. After it was all said and done, I would’ve spent over $200 on individual ride tickets if I did not have the pass. Even with just visiting the parks for a couple hours at night, it was well worth the price!

2. World-Class Rides

Do not count out Fun Spot when it comes to world-class rides. Often overlooked among its flashy neighbors, both in Orlando and Atlanta, these parks can hold their own. The Florida parks each have over 30 attractions and the Atlanta location has over 20, with all different thrill levels and tastes in mind. My favorite ride of my time in Florida even came at a Fun Spot (note that I also visited Busch Gardens Tampa and SeaWorld).

Kissimmee:

Mine Blower is the parks headline attraction and it blew me away. I absolutely loved this ride. My first spin on the coaster was at night and it was one of those experiences that stands out among all other rides.

It was smooth, but still had that woodie rattle, with unbelievable perceived speed, head choppers, and airtime. Mine Blower definitely made it into my top ten list. You can get your own Mine Blower inspired apparel at the Coaster101 Tee Public store!

Other notable rides in Kissimmee are Galaxy Spin, a spinning wild mouse, Hurricane, an E&F Miler 52 foot Hi-Miler model, and the world’s tallest skycoaster standing in at 300 feet!

Orlando:

If we jump over to the Orlando park, we can talk about their main attraction, White Lightning. This eight year old GCI may look small, but is anything but tame. Its 67 foot drop sends you flying into the layout, full of floater and ejector air. This is another can’t miss coaster in the Orlando area.

Fellow Coaster101 writer, Mike met me at the Orlando location one night and we were able to grab rides on about everything we wanted to. We loved the go-karts, they are fast and have very interesting layouts—all piled on top of each other. I think the unexpected thrill of the night came on Headrush 360, a Midi Discovery model from Zamperla. The best way to describe it is like a miniature Giant Frisbee that goes all the way around the top.

You also can’t forget about the park’s other major coaster, Freedom Flyer, a family inverted coaster that is fun for both adults and kids. This fairly easy going ride does pick up speed towards the end of the ride and the helix finale is quite intense! I loved how the coaster interacts with the midway; it gets very close to the visitors heads below.

Atlanta:

Last, but certainly not least now that we have our RMC coming in 2022, Fun Spot America Atlanta is going to be the place to be next year. In what at first seemed to be a family type coaster coming to this park, recently exploded into another world-class roller coaster for the chain. With this addition, each Fun Spot park will now have its marquee roller coaster and will be a huge draw for the park.

During the Coaster101’s team recent visit to Atlanta we stopped by Fun Spot and were able to explore the park a little bit. While we enjoyed our visit, we couldn’t help but realize that the park could use some updating. Little did we know Fun Spot was already working on it. Along with the new Rocky Mountain Construction ride, the park also announced that more attractions would be coming in the future. I couldn’t be happier for where Fun Spot America Atlanta is heading—it will be hard to resist another trip down south next year!

Currently the park’s major attractions are Screamin’ Eagle, an E&F Miler 38 foot Hi Miler model, several go-kart tracks, three mini golf courses, and a carnival type selection of flat rides.

3. Flexibility

My favorite part about having the season pass was the ability to visit when I could. There was no pressure to be there from park open to close. I was able to head over around 9:00 PM and spend a few hours there because they close at midnight. This way I was able to be with my family and do stuff during the day and also get the thrills in at night (plus it wasn’t as hot). Crowds were also lighter during the evening and my average wait time during the week was around 15 minutes (except Sunday night, it was quite busy).

If you do take someone with you, Fun Spot parks are all pay-per-ride, so you don’t have to worry about an admission price to get them in. I even was able to get a bring-a-friend-free ticket with my season pass while we were in Atlanta. So if you plan accordingly, you’re pass can help a friend out!

The only complaint I have about the season pass system is that you have to wait in the ticket line to redeem a ride wristband every visit. It would be a lot easier to simply scan your pass at the ride. Most nights the ticket line wasn’t long, but during one visit I waited almost 30 minutes to get my wristband.

I was quite impressed by what the Fun Spot America parks are doing. The parks were full of friendly employees, clean pathways, and great rides. If you are in the Orlando area make sure to not pass up a Fun Spot, you may have a new favorite ride! Have you ever been to a Fun Spot park? What were your thoughts? What was your favorite ride?
