Emperor at SeaWorld San Diego to open in March 2022

After the announcements of opening dates for Iron Gwazi and Ice Breaker earlier this week, it was only a matter of time before the next domino fell in regards to opening dates for SeaWorld’s four roller coasters that were scheduled to originally open in 2020. SeaWorld San Diego’s new dive coaster, Emperor, was that domino, and the park announced that California’s tallest and fastest floorless dive coaster will open in March of 2022.

Named after the world’s largest penguin, the new coaster will mimic this species’ amazing underwater diving ability. Climbing to 153 feet with feet dangling in the air, riders will be suspended on a 45-degree angle at the crown of the ride before plunging down a 143-foot facedown vertical drop, accelerating to more than 60 miles per hour. Riders will also experience inversions, barrel roll, Immelmann loop, hammerhead turn and flat spin as they race along the nearly 2,500 feet of track. Each of the floorless ride cars will hold 18 riders in three, six-person rows. This is the first seating configuration of its kind in North America.

Emperor will become the fifth roller coaster at the San Diego park, joining Electric Eel, Journey to Atlantis, Manta, and Tidal Twister. At 153′ tall, it will become the tallest roller coaster at the park, and the only coaster with multiple inversions.

SeaWorld San Diego is the only place in North America that you can see Emperor Penguins, making this the perfect theme for the coaster.

Pass Members & Fun Card holders who purchased on or after 11/19/2019 and are no longer active at the time of Emperor’s opening will receive the opportunity to ride during a pre-selected time period. Complete the form here by 09/30/2021 to confirm your eligibility: https://bit.ly/2WmPppz
