National Roller Coaster Day 2021 Giveaway

It’s August 16 and you know what that means. It’s time for us to wish you a Happy National Roller Coaster Day!

The unofficial National Roller Coaster Day holiday dates back to the 1980s, and while its origins are disputed, many believe the August 16th date commemorates the vertical coaster loop being patented by Edwin Prescott on August 16, 1898. That design for a vertical loop was used on the dual-tracked Loop the Loop coaster, which operated from 1901 until 1910 at Coney Island.

Roller coasters truly come in all shapes, sizes, and speeds.

From the 4’4″ tall Fruitworm Pulley at Hangzhou Children’s Park in China to the 456′ tall Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey.

From the 3.7 mph top speed of Dvergbanen at Norway’s TusenFryd, to the nearly 150mph of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi’s Formula Rossa.

From the 75’6″ long Hurcanito at Germany’s Belanti to the 8,133′ of Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land in Japan.

There are more than 5,400 operating roller coasters across the world today; 185 wood and almost 5,250 made of steel!

Happy National Roller Coaster Day!
