Columbus Zoo Announces Tidal Twist Roller Coaster

If you thought that we were done getting new coaster announcements for 2021, think again. The Columbus Zoo announced today in their member magazine that they would be adding Tidal Twist, a Spinning Roller Coaster from Zamperla, to the zoo this season.

Tidal Twist will be debuting in Adventure Cove for 2021! Built by the ride manufacturer Zamperla, this new attraction will be the first of its kind in Ohio. Standing 36 feet tall and reaching speeds up to 30 mph, this roller coaster will also be unique in that its cars spin. That’s right—halfway through the ride experience, the vehicles “unlock” and spin through the remainder of the ride.

Based on these statistics, it looks like the coaster may be similar to the Crazy Mouse at the Park at OWA — a compact Twister Coaster model from Zamperla. (Credit to @TyMullins on twitter for the assist, here!)

This new roller coaster will have a family-friendly height requirement of 42” if riding with an adult and 48” if riding alone. Joining the Columbus Zoo’s classic Sea Dragon wooden roller coaster, this new addition will make the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium the only zoo in the United States to feature two roller coasters.

Tidal Twist will be located prominently at the front of Adventure Cove, across from the seal and sea lion habitat, and will replace the existing Redwood Falls log flume ride, which is currently being demolished.

Tidal Twist is projected to open in June. It will be included for all Gold Members, with ridership also possible through individual ride tickets or as part of our ZooMore ride wristband.

Columbus Zoo notes that more information will be released soon!
