Velocicoaster at Islands of Adventure to Open June 10

For months, coaster enthusiasts around the country have been wondering what “Summer 2021” means as it relates to the opening date for Universal Orlando Resort’s newest roller coaster, Jurassic World Velocicoaster. Today, we received confirmation on just when the coaster will have its official grand opening.

On social media today, Universal Orlando announced June 10, 2021 as the opening date for the new coaster, which has been in the testing phase for weeks.

Velocicoaster, a multi-launch coaster from Intamin, will become Islands of Adventure’s fifth roller coaster, and second in the “Jurassic Park” area of the park. Topping out at 155′ tall and speeds of 70mph, the coaster will feature multiple launches, a 155′ tall top-hat, and four inversions: an Immelmann, a Dive Loop, a Barrel Roll, and a 100-foot long Zero-G stall.

For more information about the details of Velocicoaster, we recommend checking out Arthur Levine’s write-up for USA Today! Among the highlights of note in Arthur’s article are the coaster’s 51″ height requirement, and the notation that that rider’s feet will not touch the bottom of the deep ride vehicle, according to Universal Creative art director Gregory Hall. This will add to the suspense of the coaster. (Rather than rehash everything that Arthur wrote, you should really just click the link and read what he has to say, because there’s so much great information!)
