Cornell TPEG Announces Annual Design Competition

Are you a college student with an eye for themed design and want a chance to win $7,000 in prizes? Do we have some news for you! Cornell TPEG has announced registration for their annual design competition.

The Cornell Theme Park Entertainment Group is proud to announce the 2021 Theme Park Design Competition, presented by CAVU Designwerks Inc., Jack Rouse Associates, Raven Sun Creative, WhiteWater West Industries Ltd., and Antonio Zamperla S.p.A. This year’s competition, its seventh annual iteration, will offer $7,000 in cash prizes to the winning teams.

The competition will thrill students with five distinct challenges: Concept Design, Master Planning, Technical Flat Ride Experience, Water Experience Development, and Innovation. Teams will imagine a vision for a themed area, crafting theme, technology, and strategy to create professional proposals. A panel of industry experts will assess submissions for creativity, feasibility, and attention to detail.

Teams will have the opportunity to attend virtual Developmental Sessions with the event sponsors throughout the competition period to receive advice about the challenges and to learn more about the sponsors’ areas of the industry.

Teams may be composed of 2 to 4 participants currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university. Participants on a team may be from different colleges or universities, and interdisciplinary teams are recommended.

Registration will be open through Sunday, April 4. For instructions on registering a team and media contacts, please visit cornelltpeg.weebly.com.

The contest has certainly grown in the past seven years. The Coaster101 Team were members of the first Cornell TPEG Design Competition in 2015, which was won by a team from Penn State University.
