Six Flags Magic Mountain And Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Announce Reopening Date!

Both California Six Flags parks are jumping on re-opening as soon as possible. Six Flags Magic Mountain and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom announced today that they will reopen with rides on April 1.

New guidelines from the state say that theme parks can reopen starting April 1st as long as their counties have below a certain number of new covid cases each day. Both parks are in counties now in the Red Tier of reopening which allows them to reopen at 15% capacity.

“Our team is eager to return to work and entertain our guests in a safe environment, providing the much-needed fun and escape we have all missed this past year,” Six Flags Magic Mountain’s Park President Don McCoy said. “I am also looking forward to seeing guests come out and experience West Coast Racers, our newest racing coaster that was only open briefly in 2020.”

Can’t wait to get back on Tatsu at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

The parks will have lots of restrictions, limiting ride capacity, enforcing masks, lots of sanitizing, and accommodating social distancing. Guests will need to make reservations ahead of time as well. Some indoor attractions remain closed, and remember the parks will ONLY BE OPEN TO CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS. Still, after over a year long closure, this is great news.

And can’t wait to get back on Joker!

Last week we predicted when California parks would re-open, and we thought Six Flags parks might be first. Both parks have been open for special events, with Magic Mountain recently hosting the Cruis’n the park drive through event, for example. And Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has been partly open as a zoo since last summer, so they’re well setup to allow guests in. Both parks have also been testing coasters recently (see Instagram and twitter posts from guests who attended recent special events).

More details about changes to the parks operations when we learn them, but for now you can visit the Six Flags Magic Mountain and Discovery Kingdom websites to make your reservations. April 1 and April 2 will be preview days for Six Flags members and passholders, and starting April 3 the general public will be able to make reservations.

So, for my fellow Californians out there, which coaster do you want to ride first after the year long closure? Let us know in the comments below, or on Twitter/Facebook/Etc.!
