The time has arrived to vote for the 2020 Attraction Awards! We received a wide variety of nominations this year and had the difficult task of narrowing them down for inclusion in this year’s (unscientific) polls.
These awards honor some of the best of the best of the amusement industry including new attractions and parks that have gone above and beyond in this very difficult year.
UPDATE: See the winners of the 2020 Attraction Awards here!
This year, we introduced two new categories that aim to highlight parks’ perseverance and optimism in 2020: the “Helping Hand Award” and the “Best Park Twitter During the Shutdown.” See below for more information about each of those as well as the other four categories.
The polls will be open through Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Winners will be announced shortly thereafter. You may place one vote per category.
Vote using the polls below:
1. Best New-for-2020 Coaster
While the number of new-for-2020 coasters may be smaller than initially anticipated, there were still some stellar additions to the coaster collection both in the US and overseas. Which of these coasters do you think stood above the rest (figuratively speaking, of course).
2. Most Anticipated 2021 Coaster
Which of these new-for-2021 coasters are you most excited to ride?
3. Helping Hand Award
This award highlights parks’ supporting and giving back to their respective communities during the pandemic. These included food drives, fundraisers and other initiatives to support those most affected by the pandemic. Below are links with more information about each nominated park’s act of giving back:
- Busch Gardens Williamsburg donated food to a local food bank.
- Carowinds donated unused face masks to local schools.
- Disney Parks donated excess food to local food banks; donated 3.3 million lights to Give Kids The World Village.
- Dollywood made and donated face masks to local hospital; also donated money to local food bank.
- Kings Dominion donated excess food to a local food bank.
- Six Flags America donated ponchos to nursing home personnel; and its parking lot is being used as a Covid-19 testing site.
- Six Flags Fiesta Texas donated food and toiler paper to local food bank and hospital.
- Six Flags Great America cohosted a food drive that helped feed over 3,000 families.
- Walibi Holland cheered up the internet with videos of teddy bears riding a coaster.
4. Best Park Twitter During the Shutdown
While parks across the globe were shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many parks took to Twitter to engage fans in creative ways. These marketers and social media gurus worked tirelessly to keep fans talking with games, contests, construction updates, etc. Which of these parks do you think did the best job?
5. Best Attraction Logo
An attraction’s logo can be just as recognizable as the attraction itself. You see it on merchandise, entrance signs, ride vehicles — the list goes on. Which of these attractions do you think has the best-designed logo?
6. Best Tunnel on a Coaster
Tunnels can add a special something to a roller coaster ride — a “head-chopper” moment, a disorienting maneuver in complete darkness or even just a reprieve from the heat. Which of these coasters has the best tunnel?
Again, the polls will be open through Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Winners will be announced shortly thereafter. You may place one vote per category.
Thank you for voting!
Which park did the most for their employees during shutdowns … Valleyfair
You know Dorney Park raised 43K for Second Harvest Food Bank and fed over a quarter of a million families in their local area in May. Just saying you didn’t do your research. Also did a 100% for charity fireworks drive-in benefitting their Local COVID Relief Fund – they donated $15,000.
Hi Al, these awards are nominated and voted upon by our readers. We try to catch any major omissions but this one fell through the cracks. That’s certainly an amazing impact that the park has made!
