Six Flags Releases Safety Regulations and Park Opening Details

Six Flags has announced their plans for their reopening guidelines, as well as which park they plan on opening first. Frontier City, located in Oklahoma City, will open its doors to guests on June 5th, with the new Six Flags chain-wide adjustments in effect.

In a video statement, Six Flags explained their new COVID-19 safety protocols and what that will entail for eager guests. First, guests will need to make a reservation for the date they plan on visiting, which can be done online at sixflags.com/reserve. To make a reservation, guests will enter their online order number or Season Pass/Membership number and then select the date they would like to visit.

Upon making the reservation, guests will need to watch a video that describes new social distancing and sanitization procedures and check a box to acknowledge their understanding of the policies. Six Flags also encourages guests to purchase their parking in advance, to limit physical interaction at the ticket booth. It is not necessary to make a reservation for each individual person in guests’ parties, one person is able to make the reservation for their whole party at once. For more information about the reservation system policies, check out the link to the reservation website, there is a very helpful and detailed FAQ section.

The main reason for requiring reservations is that all Six Flags parks will operate with limited capacity, although no percentage has been announced yet and will most likely vary from park to park. The park will also use no-contact temperature screenings upon guest arrival. This device is set up in a small tent, and requires guests to walk through while their temperature is scanned by a camera and shown on a monitor.

Before entering the park, guests will also be required to pass through a touchless security checkpoint. The introduction of this technology at parks is very interesting, and hopefully will become the norm even after COVID-19 has cleared up, because this type of technology can expedite the park entry process significantly.

Once in the park, face coverings or masks will be required of all guests and employees, except for certain areas of the water parks, whose guidelines have not been released yet. Social distancing will also be mandatory throughout the park and in all queue lines, requiring guests to stand within markers placed six feet apart.

Social distancing will also be in place in restaurants, ride vehicles (achieved with empty rows and seats), water park areas, entertainment viewing areas, and indoor venues. Six Flags will be taking extensive action with sanitizing and disinfecting surfaces, and will have a designated team that will focus solely on sanitizing and disinfecting any area that guests need to touch.

Throughout the park, there will also be hand sanitizing and hand washing stations set up in various locations as well as ride entrances and exits to make sure guests are doing their part in staying clean.

Part of this will also be encouraging guests to “Do the Six,” which is a list of six precautions guests should be taking to keep themselves and others safe. These include wearing a mask, washing hands often, covering coughs, keeping social distance, sanitizing often, and having fun.

Guests are encouraged to use the mobile ordering function on the Six Flags mobile app to order their food, and the park will also be eliminating all buffets, as well as replacing cups at each refill station. The midway games will also be reconfigured to allow for increased sanitization and social distancing.

Signage will be located throughout the park reminding guests to keep up the safety protocols, as well as messages that will be played on the TV monitors in the park.

Six Flags also announced that they will be introducing a virtual queuing system as well, but did not provide any further details.
