Universal Studios Beijing Announces Seven Themed Lands

Universal Studios Beijing, part of the greater Universal Beijing Resort, this week announced the seven themed lands that will make up the massive theme park.

First announced in 2014, Universal Studios Beijing and the resort are slated to open in 2021. And while Universal has not yet released specifics about many of the rides, this latest news gives us a more in-depth preview of what to expect inside the 420-acre resort.

Each of the seven lands will “contain a magnificently themed mix of attractions, shows, shops and restaurants.” The seven areas include:

  1. Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness
  2. Transformers: Metrobase
  3. Minion Land
  4. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
  5. Jurassic World Isla Nublar
  6. Hollywood
  7. WaterWorld

Below are more details about each of the seven Universal Studios Beijing lands:

1. Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness

The indoor Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness area brings to life the animated movie series Kung Fu Panda, which follows the adventures of Po the panda in his quest to become a Kung Fu master.

Inside, guests will find several Chinese-themed locations throughout the environment, including many of the film franchise’s most beloved icons, such as the Jade Palace, the Panda Village, and the Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom.

The enclosed experience is set in “Legendary China,” and is expected to be the world’s first Kung Fu Panda-themed land.

2. Transformers: Metrobase

Transformers: Metrobase will be another first for the theme park industry: the first land dedicated solely to the Transformers franchise.

An expanded story was specifically developed for the city-sized character of Metrobase:

In conjunction with top Chinese scientists, Metrobase selected this Energon rich site just outside the city of Beijing to serve as the N.E.S.T. Beijing headquarters– a top-secret, technologically-advanced zone where an alliance between humans and Autobots developed to protect the Earth.

The land is filled with Cybertronian architecture and advanced technology that creates an immersive experience that brings “guest agents” into the world of Transformers like never before.

From the concept art above, it appears that the land will be home to a Bolliger & Mabillard coaster, which looks very similar to Incredible Hulk at Islands of Adventure in Orlando.

3. Minion Land

Inspired by the Despicable Me franchise, Minion Land is a kid-friendly space that is full of characters and scenes from the films.

Guests can see shows, meet their favorite characters, and enjoy interaction with the mischievous Minions.

4. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Like other Universal parks, Universal Studios Beijing will also feature its own Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade. Like its counterparts, Wizarding World will include “multiple groundbreaking attractions, shops, restaurants, entertainment and more.”

5. Jurassic World Isla Nublar

It wouldn’t be a Universal park without a few dinosaurs. Jurassic World Isla Nublar encompasses the essence of the Jurassic Park film franchise and creates a larger-than-life land with something for guests of all ages. Dinosaurs on hand in the area include the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptors, Ankylosaurs, and the Indominus Rex.

6. Hollywood Boulevard

Guests will enter Universal Studios Beijing through the LA- and movie-inspired Hollywood Boulevard.

The partially covered land will be home to the “Lights, Camera, Action!” attraction, featuring world-renowned directors, Zhang Yimou and Steven Spielberg. The experience will mix Western and Eastern popular culture while leading guests into the behind-the-scenes glitz and glamour of Hollywood special effects.

7. WaterWorld Stunt Show

Finally, Universal Studios Beijing will also offer guests a themed area surrounding WaterWorld, Universal theme parks’ popular stunt show that allows visitors to experience a one-of-a-kind “battle on water.” The show features thrilling performances and daring stunts. Universal Studios Beijing marks the first Universal theme park to have its own WaterWorld-themed area that includes dining and other entertainment offerings.

Universal Beijing Resort will also feature the Universal CityWalk Beijing dining and entertainment district as well as two resort hotels: The Universal Studios Grand Hotel and the NUO Resort Hotel – Universal Beijing Resort.

Construction on the park and resort is underway and on track for the targeted 2021 opening date. To learn more, visit the Universal Beijing Resort website.
