Ice Breaker Launch Coaster Coming to SeaWorld Orlando in 2020

Back in June, SeaWorld Orlando begun teasing a new addition, featuring “plunging thrills” and “predatory heights.” At a joint announcement with Busch Gardens Tampa Bay this morning, the park has announce Ice Breaker, the park’s sixth roller coaster.

Ice Breaker will be SeaWorld Orlando’s first launch coaster, launching not once but four times. The first launch will take guests up a 93-foot tall vertical spike, with a 100-degree, beyond vertical drop, making it the steepest roller coaster in all of Florida.

Riders will also encounter an 80-foot top hat, and twists and turns throughout the 90-second experience.

“When we build roller coasters, we do them a little differently,”  Jonathan Smith, director of rides and engineering for SeaWorld Parks told Arthur Levine for USA Today.  “We try to integrate them with the causes that we care about, such as animal care, conservation and education.”

Ice Breaker, will be located near SeaWorld’s Wild Arctic exhibit and share a similar theme, promoting conservation issues related to the Arctic and the ocean.

Featuring 2,750 feet of track, Ice Breaker will have a height requirement of just 48″ and reach speeds of 52-mph. SeaWorld is calling Ice Breaker a family-thrill attraction. It will be a great “tweener” coaster between Super Grover’s Box Car Derby and SeaWorld Orlando’s trio of B&M’s: Mako, Kraken, and Manta.

Ice Breaker is scheduled to open in Spring 2020.
