Candymonium Hypercoaster at Hersheypark announced for 2020

Hersheypark has kicked off the 2020 announcement season by formally unveiling details on their 2020 Hypercoaster: Candymonium!

The new ride, which I presume will be on our list of the most anticipated new roller coasters of 2020, will open in summer of 2020 as part of the new “Hershey’s Chocolatetown” area, the parks massive $150 million expansion. It will be the 14th roller coaster at Hersheypark (15th if you count the water coaster), and will take the crown as the parks tallest, fastest, and longest ride. Surprisingly, this will be the first candy themed roller coaster in the park.

“As The World’s Sweetest CoasterCandymonium will truly merge fun and iconic Hershey brands to provide a thrilling experience our guests can only get in Hershey,” said John Lawn, president and CEO of Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company. “We worked with leading industry manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) to assemble a one-of-a-kind hypercoaster with the most airtime of any coaster in Hersheypark.”

Candymonium is going to span seven acres across the entrance of the land, featuring chocolate colored track and candy themed trains. The trains will be themed to Hershey’s Kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Twizzlers (so if you have a favorite candy, I guess try to wait for the right train). The B&M hypercoaster will have a 210 lift hill, reach a max speed of 76 miles per hour, and have a 4,636 foot long track. The 2 minute and 26 second ride will send you through seven camelback hills and a 123 degree hammerhead turn, a classic element on B&M hypers. The final part of the ride sends you in a banked turn around a new, iconic, “Kisses Fountain.” These impressive stats will make the coaster the tallest, fastest, longest and “sweetest” coaster at Hersheypark.

The park was very excited to share the details of the new 23-acre Chocolatetown, which Lawn says will “create a place where guests can eat, play, shop and gather year round, transforming the guest experience in new and exciting ways.” Candymonium will span 7 acres around the new front gate of Hersheypark, opening with the new area in summer 2020. “The coaster station of Candymonium will also be our most immersive to date”, added Lawn, “With extensive theming around the world’s sweetest coaster and exit retail store.” The coaster will be available to riders at the Twizzlers height limit, which is 54 inches and above. “There is no other place in the world where guests can experience something like Canymonium,” said Lawn.

As a fan of pretty much every B&M hyper we’ve been on, we’re pretty excited about Hersheyparks newest coaster. We might have to update our Hersheypark Coaster rankings.
